Trousers (or pants in North American English) are an item of clothing worn on the lower part of the body and covering both legs separately (rather than together as in skirts and dresses). In addition, the upper part of trousers covers the genital area and the buttocks, usually hiding the underwear from view.
The earliest trousers were worn by horse-riding peoples. They are worn at the hips or waist, and may be held up by their own fastenings, a belt, or suspenders. Today in many parts of the world, trousers are the standard lower body garment for boys and men. In the course of the 20th century, it became also fashionable for girls and women to wear trousers instead of skirts and dresses.
Trousers come in many different styles and shapes. Many types of traditional types of trousers reached just over the knee, and were often tied with ribbons below the knee, while the calves were covered by stockings and not by trousers. Today, most types of trousers cover the entire leg, and modern types of trousers with short legs (knee-length or shorter) are called shorts.
Trousers and spanking
If a spankee wears trousers, they are often either lowered/pulled down or entirely removed prior to a spanking so that they won't protect the buttocks from the spanks. This has a double punitive effect: first, it makes the spanking more painful; second, the act of undoing and lowering the trousers is humiliating and adds to the shame and embarassment of the delinquent.
Nonetheless, trousers may also have stimulating functions beyond being removed: One can find it exciting if spankers catch spankees on the trouser waistband - to "hinder" them from escaping - and pull them over their knees, keeping the grip. Leaving on the trousers, especially if they are close-fitting and therefore emphasize the buttocks, may also increase the effect in some cases (even by the special sound when hitting).
If the trousers are loose-fitting and not pulled down, they are often instead pulled tight over the buttocks for the spanking. This is to minimize their protective effect. In addition, it lets the spanker see the "target area" (the two hemispheres of the buttocks) more clearly for a better aim.
