A stroke (in a spanking context) is a blow or hit, usually with an implement. Although the word can be used in any context (including stroke of the whip), it implies a more moderate hit of carefully gauged intensity, compared to the word strike.

Note that the verb to stroke has the different meaning of "to move one's hand or an object (such as a broom) along (a surface) in one direction" — for example to stroke a cat.

Example use:

  • She gave him three strokes of the cane.
