French maid
A French maid is a type of maid that, in addition to performing basic household chores, is often portrayed in literature, drama, and films as an upper-class symbol of forbidden sexual desire. The sexy, revealing trademark uniform has become an object of fetishism as well as a popular item for costume parties and sexual role play.
The uniform[edit]
The standard uniform is a short black satin dress with a plunging neckline decorated with white trim (usually lace). Ruffled petticoats are often worn underneath to create a bell-like shape. Black leather high heeled shoes and sheer black or fishnet stockings and garter belt are worn, as well as a white tiara-like cloth headpiece often made of lace. A white satin apron, often with a frilly lace border, and a feather duster, completes the basic look.
Some uniforms, especially costumes for Halloween and sexual role playing, include a black cloth or satin collar and white lace cuffs or gloves. In some fantasy scenarios, the maid is closer to a slave, and is further restrained with wrist and ankle shackles.
Maid cafes[edit]
French maid uniforms are particularly popular in Japan. There are even maid cafes, sometimes called Meido cafes, and cosplay restaurants, where the female employees wear uniforms based on popular comic book characters.
The French maid as sexual fantasy figure[edit]
The French maid is one of the most popular figures in erotic literature, pornographic films, and spanking fetish videos. The master-and-maid scenario comes from the universal fantasy of having a compliant, domestic sex slave (even when the sex is only implied).
