Offense (also spelled offence) is a term for:

  • in sports, an attack
  • in law, a violation of the penal law
  • a breaking of a rule or regulation
  • a discourtesy (hurting the feelings of others)

Childish offense[edit]

Children are are often scolded and/or punished for childish offenses (misbehavior) by their parents, guardians, or other people in loco parentis such as babysitters, governesses, teachers, etc. Most importantly they are considered developmental issues expected of childhood to be dealt with on that level and moved on. This is opposed to more serious problems like adult crimes. Some childish offenses stem from age inappropriate behaviors that are only considered offenses due to the person's age.
