Spam attacks[edit]

Given the flood of annoying spam attacks recently, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to suspend the new user account option for a few weeks. You mean the Drag'n'Drop OTK Composer? There is no more link, sorry, as the site A Spanking New Art Genre was closed in 2005. Bizarre[edit]

If the art of John Willie from his Bizarre magazine is public domain, what about the cover art? I have a cover from 1946 I'd like to add to the magazine article. Looks like his style but could have been by another artist. -- Jameslovebirch 18:46, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

It is currently being disputed on Commons whether John Willie's Bizarre magazine (1946-1959) is really public domain, see [2]. It looks like it is, or might be, but let's wait until this thread is resolved on Commons. I'm not really fit in U.S. copyright law, but I understand the PD notice and [3] such that the magazine is PD in the U.S. as "Works Registered or First Published in the U.S.; Date of Publication: 1923 through 1977; Published without a copyright notice; Copyright Term: None. In the public domain due to failure to comply with required formalities". If the magazine is PD, then, as far as I understand it, so is all its contents, including all the cover images regardless of who made them. --Spankart (talk) 21:52, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

There is a series of interesting S&M photos from 1930 by the artist Man Ray (who died in 1976) that I would like to use. I suppose this is also impossible under the current restrictions? -- Jameslovebirch 15:04, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, unless the photos are in the PD by some twist of U.S. law (see the link above), the normal copyright term "year of death + 70 years" means his works will be copyrighted until 2047. --Spankart (talk) 22:50, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Upgrades[edit]

This wiki installation has been upgraded from 1.16.* to 1.18.*, additionally all extensions have been upgraded to their latest respective versions and those which were obselete have been replaced with their new counterparts. Due to this there may be one or two errors, please keep an eye out. Ai 16:06, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Additionally, I have enabled xcache caching for all users, and static file caching for users who are not logged in. This should speed things up considerably. It shouldn't create any additional errors, but as with my above message please keep an eye out for anything Ai 16:44, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Template:Youtube[edit]

Ok all pages are now using {{YouTube2}}, so I could safely delete {{YouTube}} without braking any pages. have done so, I deleted {{YouTube}} and moved {{YouTube2}} into it's place leaving behind a redirect so that {{YouTube2}} still work despite it actually being {{YouTube}}. It is now ready for barebot to simple delete the 2 from the template name. but i'll give the database a brief rest before doing so as it going to spam the hell out of the resent changes as it the 16th most used template on the wiki. --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   21:03, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

RE: Adolescent001a.jpg[edit]

Regarding File:Adolescent001a.jpg: I recall there was minor controversy over this image just before AOTK's server went offline. In case you're unfamiliar with the image, it's a simple line drawing of a nude adolescent girl, showing the typical proportions of a child entering puberty (the picture is posted on our other wiki under the same filename). I'm wondering if the image would be acceptable under our current image policy (as mentioned here, I'm a little uncertain as to what falls under the heading of "prurient"). Thanks for your time. Yes, I recall the image. I consider it no problem. Biology textbooks in schools feature similar illustrations, often even in photo form, to show how the body features change from child to adult. The drawing, as such, is perfectly neutral (not sexualized in pose or context). Still, it does somehow seem to draw the viewer's attention a little too much to the girl's crotch area, which might be the reason some people could consider it objectionable. I don't know how to fix this, other than to redraw it perhaps in three quarter view. --Spankart (talk) 22:56, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Lost pages[edit]

Didn't we lose a page on marriage or spanking and marriage? I have a detailed, formatted list of CP videos about marriage that were posted somewhere -- but that section no longer seems to exist.

Yes. This relaunch is based on a database backup from February 2012 and so it is painfully missing all the work we did in the wiki in March and April 2012. Flag Icons[edit]

Hey, Spankart. Here's an idea I originally posted on Naughty Corner, but it didn't really take hold. I thought we might be able to use these "buttons" to signify country of origin re artists, artwork and related subject matter. They're relatively simple to produce in photoshop, and I can make as many as necessary. Let me know if you think this is a good idea, and I'll reproduce them as miniature gif transparencies. I think they look good, visually, but I can't see much use for them here, except perhaps in a table. To add them by convention to any articles that have some connection to a country will be a lot of work, and we might spend our limited online time better on other tasks. We once tried the idea of adding standardized "bio infoboxes", via a template, to provide basic bio information in the top right corner at a quick glance. Math problems[edit]

I can't save changes to exterior links without a spam block coming up that requires solving a simple math equation. But it doesn't work. Put in the correct answer and it keeps asking me to solve another, and another... It will never save any changes. Do you still get that problem? Perhaps a forced-reload of the page, e.c. CTRL+F5, might help; I've had a similar issue with the math captcha once. As to the spam block, can you please give me the domains so that I can add them to the whitelist? If the wiki won't let you save a page with these domains in it, just hack a space character into the middle of the domain name. --Spankart (talk) 21:55, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Sometimes it works, but mostly have problems. Going to any page, in addition to saving/previewing changes, often ends in an error message: "Safari can't open page ... server where page is located isn't responding". Today, in order to add an external link to the Kailee Links section, had repeated server errors plus a hang-up with the math-problem blocker. Finally a rather strange equation (3 - 8 = -5) was accepted. -- Jameslovebirch (talk) 15:47, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Another glitch is pages often download in a different simplified text-only format with no layout structure. Looks like a basic default setting is taking over. Today, in order to save changes with exterior links, had to solve 9 math problems in a row -- plus several server errors. Came close to giving up. If this continues, I probably won't be contributing much in the future. Will this site be moving to a new location? -- Jameslovebirch (talk) 15:30, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry for the troubles, we're all handicapped by this extremely slow server at the moment, but I'm hoping we can move to a different server, or reduce the load on this one, soon. We'll try to keep the URL spankingart.org even if we move servers. If anything happens that causes a longer complete downtime of the wiki I'll try to write infos on my blog. Right now I'm travelling and very busy with work, so I can't do much this week. Please try to contact Rogue for anything that he as an admin can do. Log in problems[edit]

I can't log in. Never had trouble before. Now I get this message: "You have cookies disabled. Please enable them and try again." Unfortunately, I have no idea where to go to "enable" cookies as I never disabled them in the first place. - Jameslovebirch

Spanking in anime[edit]

I noticed you added an example image and was wondering if you knew what series File:1230464402072.gif was from so I could label it. If you don't know I could try posting it on /a/ and seeing if anyone recognizes the characters. They don't ring a bell with me at the moment.

Ideally I'd love it if we could get a picture, animated GIF or video to illustrate every instance of spanking in anime. Would it be possible in the future for each spanking-featuring series to have its own page here?

Also I noticed the image is hosted at this url and when I tried to visit uncyc.org I was told to load uncyclopedia.­info due to failure. Does this mean that SpankingArt.org is now a sub-wiki of Uncyclopedia? Ty 03:22, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

  • I don't know what series this example is from. It's just a pic I happened to find on Uncyclomedia Commons. Feel free to post it elsewhere; the information would of course be welcome for us.
  • Yes, it would be possible, and welcome. We have articles on books, on comics, on films, on TV shows; in the same way we can have articles on anime series. The only difficulty for illustrating is that we can't permit copyrighted images as part of this wiki, so you'd need to circumnavigate this as detailed on our Spanking Art:External image policy. Currently supported external hosts are Flickr, Photobucket, and Uncyclomedia Commons. Another option, for video clips, would be YouTube or Dailymotion, but our video embedding feature is broken at the moment and we have no outlook when it will be fixed.
  • Technically, we're now hosted on the same server as Uncyclomedia Commons (IP address 68.71.52.214). We are one of several wikis hosted on this server and share some of the technical configuration. Superman[edit]

Unfortunately the places I found them lacked that information, the black and white ones at least must surely be old enough to be public domain I'd hope =/ Even barring the info isn't there some kinda fair-use way we could have them up until we find them? Displaying them's probably the most assured way to figure out the exact year/comic they're from, I'd guess.

Barring that, all I can figure is maybe to upload them to DC.wikia and ask if they might be able to help source them, since they seem to allow that.

If they stay up there, would it be okay to link to where they're hosted on the DC wikia to display them on that article? Ty 06:36, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Unless we have some certainty of PD status we can't allow the images here as our image use policy explicitly forbids fair use. Other wikis, including most Wikia wikis, have no such policy and will usually allow unfree or doubtful content. We can link to images on these external sites, but we can't hotlink to them, except if the site explicitly permits hotlinking. AOTK[edit]

Regarding the mass info removal, it got me wondering, due to the clear division in ownership and lifespan of the old forum and the new forum, could we plausibly have separate articles for AOTK 1.0 and 2.0? That way content could be updated for the current site while retaining the content that had been built for the old one. One other key thing I noticed is that most forums have a 'contact' button that leads to a form for getting in contact with administration and stuff like that.

I can't seem to find it on AOTK v2.0 and it makes me wonder, is there even a way to do that other than registering and PMing? It appears one must log in to use their chat room as well. As far as I can tell they don't have any organized ban appeals system in place, so I'm at a loss at how to clear up a misunderstanding regarding Gaius Marius. Ty 06:57, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it would be possible to have separate articles on the original and the new Anime OTK forums. It would be easier to do, lexicographically, if the new one had chosen a clearly different name. But we could use something like Anime OTK version 2 or Animeotk.net or AnimeOTK.net as a lemma.

Yes, this is a different image that just happens to have the same file name. It's automatically transcluded by the wiki software. We can't stop the software from doing that, but it's no problem. --Spankart (talk) 17:34, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

SM201[edit]

Noticed this other BDSM website, SM201, is simply copying and pasting entire pages from this site, including photos (mine) and YouTube videos. (At least their videos play.) Uncyc[edit]

Also Uncyclopedia to boot. I was thinking it would be good to have articles about these here, since they now pertain to the wiki since we're somehow hosted on their servers... I tend to get the two a bit confused TBH. Like if they split up or something. It appears there's an Uncyclopedia hosted on Wikia now so it's especially confusing. As far as I can tell, they appear to have separate userbases, and Wikia Staff seem to be able to upload pornography there whilst banning people for doing less on other Wikia projects. Very confusing. Russian artist works[edit]

Although I am a thankful reader of this Wiki for a long time I registered only now. I have an information about a few Russian spanking artists, but unfortunately I am not very experienced in Wiki editing. So if you don’t mind I’ll post what I have here, so you can decide wether it’s worth mentioning in your Wiki, or not.

The first artist is known as femalepower (the real name is unknown). His works were posted on now defunct femdomart.ru. He made color paintings and simple Flash animations. I was in contact with this author back in 2007 and he has sent me his works. I have three pictures from him:

Also after deletion of femdomart.ru he was kind enough to send me three Flash animations. Unfortunately I mistakenly deleted one of them so currently I have only two. He didn’t have his own site so he wanted to place his works just anywhere to preserve them. Russian artist works-2[edit]

Hi Spankart!

This is the information about yet another Russian spanking artist. It was really stupid of me to overlook femalepower article. Having no desire to repeat this mistake I checked up the artist list and kindinov seem not to be there. So here is a short information on him and his works, so you can decide weather or not to add him to Wiki (to me his works worth it).

Kindinov is Russian artis living in Riga (Latvia). As far as I know he is professional and makes spanking drawings just for fun. He posts his works for everyone to see in his own thread on the main Russian spanking forum:

Often people ask him to sketch this or that scene and sometimes he does. One girl even sent him her own photo and he depicted her in historical spanking scene. Would you agree to make any of your artwork available under a free license (suitable copyleft or public domain), so we can use it here? And could you perhaps ask Kindinov if he would agree to put any of his artwork under such a license?

I don’t really think my works deserve a special article on Wiki. Unfortunately I don't have enough practice for the last years and I am rather lazy so my illustrations are mostly loose sketches - nothing like Kindinov's professional work. I posted my illustrations on my Talk page with some explanations. You can use them in Spanking Art Wiki as well as on other Web sites.

I’ll drop the message to Kindinov about free licence pictures for you. The answer can take some time as he visits Forum when finishing another drawing, but hopefully you’ll have an answer within a week.

Please feel free to ask if you need some pic or icon for the Wiki, or simple animation. As I have a lot of work it may take some time, but if this is a simple project I can complete it is reasonable time.

Restaurants[edit]

Was considering putting up a page that listed mainstream theme restaurants (as opposed to private clubs) that include light-hearted patron CP as part of the "service". My choice of title would be "Spanking theme restaurants" or "Theme restaurants with spanking" unless you prefer something else. Delete uploaded photo[edit]

I accidentally uploaded a photo to which I irrevocably released all rights. I did not have permission to upload the file, but I have since replaced it with an identical version with a different file name which i do have permission to upload. Paddles[edit]

The home page for Paddles shows the cover of the (print?) April 2008 issue (vol 15, no. 4). They claim to have published online since 1998 -- but those issues only go up to 2004. I took that to mean they stopped with the 2008 issue. However, there is also a subscriber offer for bimonthly print issues that suggests they are still in print.

A very disorganized and out-of-date website. Hard to tell if this is still active or a neglected site. Even stranger is the DVD section offers two videos from Punished Brats. Long story short, I'd like to start an encyclopedia dedicated to panchira and panty shots. I've already joined one on Wikia, but as we already know, their administrators have an unfortunate tendency to delete on sight.

Hi, Simon. I am unsure if our host might be willing, or what the outcome would be if he did so. But as he has helped us before when Wikia took our wiki down, and later again, when Anime OTK collapsed, there might be chances he would help you too if Wikia were to delete, for example, Pantsu Wiki one future day. Of course this is not a promise, just a chance. But I think it makes more sense to keep building an existing wiki on your subject of interest than to start a new one on the same subject -- and to make regular backups, most important of all. This is the best advice I can give you. No host is a safe haven forever. And Wikia did provide us with regular backups back in the old days -- and they also gave us real good technical support with the relaunch after they had taken our wiki down. At Anime OTK, page backups we received were irregular, file backups even more irregular, and technical support for our relaunch was zero. Screen shots like that would at best be fair use while some wikia wikis allow fair use images, they are not currently part of this wiki's policy. Twice no: no, they don't need permission to reuse our contents, and no, it is not okay because they did not follow all of the required terms of the GFDL. These terms are pretty complex, and among other things they demand that every reuser must include a full copy of the text of the license with their distribution. Soon after the launch of Wikipedia, it became clear that the GFDL is not an ideal copyleft license (as it was originally made for software documentation, not for wikis). An informal "gentleman's agreement" that came up at Wikipedia says that a hypertexted line such as Template:Wipipedia-text or Template:Wikipedia-text (I'm sure you've seen these used here on the wiki) is considered sufficient for wiki content reuse on the Internet. Most authors in GFDL licensed wikis tend to accept this gentleman's agreement. (Some people who reuse wiki content think it is enough to provide just a link to the source, but this view is not generally shared among the copyleft community.)
So you may want to try contacting the blogger and ask them to change their line:

Hello Sam, that's good news. As long as she does agree to one of the licenses in our Image use policy (e.g. CC-BY-SA) it is okay. A link to her site can be included on the image description page, this is no problem. Watermarks are not very usual in copyleft artwork but they are not forbidden either. However anyone is also free to remove the watermark if they can, because the copyleft licenses we use all permit derivative work. There exist other copyleft licenses which forbid derivative work (such as CC-BY-ND-SA), but these are incompatible to this wiki. The "BY-SA" ("attribution" plus "share alike") part of the CC-BY-SA license fulfils same function as the watermark, but in a legal, not "mechanic" way. It's not very complicated, it's just that in order to make such a wiki work both legally and practically, all contents have to be under a license that allows reuse and modification. Hi WXY, yes this is certainly possible, and our wiki's free license permits to reuse all of the images and also to translate all of the contents as long as the license requirements are met (stating the exact licenses, giving credit to the authors/artists/source). But that would need a small community of authors fluent in that language who have a lot of time and stamina to invest the required work continually over a period of many years, without giving it up. They would be totally left to themselves in that project. I have seen many wikis get started, but after 50, 100 or 200 hours of work invested they ended in an unmaintained content ruin or in digital nirvana. This just as a warning -- I certainly would be very happy to see a second Spanking Art Wiki in another language version. But I can't stress the work involved strongly enough. The community for this English language wiki is small and weak enough; any other language will have it even harder. --Spankart (talk) 07:38, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

I'm very sorry for your hassles. I am afraid help is difficult because none of us working in the wiki are admins on the server running the wiki. And the only person who is the actual admin is difficult to reach. Unfortunately the behavour as described seems to be irregular, sometimes you can save your edit and sometimes you can't. I suspect the problem might have to do with the caching server of CloudFlare, because we have never seen the problem until our host moved to CloudFlare. I never see the problems you're describing myself when I'm logged in as Spankart (I always am, as I tick the box "Keep me logged in"). Can you try if it helps of you make sure to tick that box when logging in? User:Euticus had reported the same kind of problems last year. Hello 豆さん, good news: our host found the cause and implemented a workaround. It was an error in the KeyCAPTCHA MediaWiki extension. Wow, look at this. Maybe I've just tried to use the wrong URL. For a year...? Maybe, maybe not. Let's hope that was the issue. The message "page can not be found" have been occurring every single time I've tried to "save page". Let's hope we solved the big issue now. I'm a very active writer on fictionpress now and if you ask me I think I've improved my English quite a bit the latest years. I hope I can be a better contributer to the wiki from now.
