New logo versions (2008)[edit]

Please feel free to add your comments and suggestions here.

  • My original version was intended to have a triple symbolic reading: a) a bare bottom (to symbolize spanking), b) an open book (to symbolize the encyclopedia we're creating), c) a picture frame (to symbolize the art aspect). I suppose however the book idea didn't really come across well, so the new version drops this idea. Please let me know whether it is better or not, in your opinion. My vote goes for number four, the new version by Spankart with 'Spanking Art' on it. Ciao, Blackshade9 01:16, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Is it just me? I have seen the original logo many times now, but I never thought of the book symbol, nor particularly of the painting frame, tho I think that I saw that one subconsciously, as an aesthetic. I saw the bare bottom allusion straight away, as I suppose all of us aficionados would. But to me a striking aspect of the logo was the way it seemed to play with that foreground / background duality, where the image becomes different if you mentally swap the foreground for the background. I could clearly see a woman’s cleavage as formed by a beautiful white dress, and seen from the woman’s point of view as she looks down her front. This conflation of the delicious curves and cleavage of the bottom and the breast was, I felt, the real attraction of the piece. With the amended ones, the cleavage gains that little tight crevasse from the top of the bottom, which is not really seen with breasts, so the new ones come down more unambiguously on the bottom side, and largely discard the visual punning between breast / bottom. But they are all still very high quality. Did you have a previous incarnation as a commercial artist Spankart? I ended up voting for number 3, and I couldn’t see the difference between 2 and 3. As for 4, I like the original idea that less is more. Not quite spelling everything out is part of the mystique of this field, is that not so? eric 06:39, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the interesting comment. I've never seen it like this myself, but now that you mention it... ;) I think it is already clear that none of the new suggestions is clearly ahead of the original logo. So I think I will make some further new logo candidates when I get to it, maybe in a few weeks time. Spankart 22:15, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I did see the open book, I like the old logo.--Reverend 19:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

New logo versions (2013)[edit]

These versions put more emphasis on the picture frame, symbolizing Art. Let me know what you think. --Spankart (talk) 07:20, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
