A secretary is an administrative assistant in business office administration.

The executive secretary (sometimes called administrative assistant or associate) has a myriad of administrative duties. Traditionally, these duties were mostly related to correspondence, such as the typing out of letters. The advent of word processing has significantly reduced the time that such duties require, with the result that many new tasks have come under the purview of the secretary. These might include managing budgets and doing bookkeeping, maintaining websites, and making travel arrangements. Secretaries might manage all the administrative details of running a high level conference or arrange the catering for a typical lunch meeting. Often executives will ask their assistant to take meeting minutes and prepare meeting documents for review. They may also do personnel paperwork which used to be thought of as a Human Relations function.

Secretaries and spankings[edit]

The typical secretary in the 20th and 21st century is a female assistant to a male or female boss. As such, the two will work closely together and there is a stereotype, popular in fiction such as novels and films, of a secretary and her boss entering a secret sexual relationship.

As the secretary is of lower status to her boss, this has the potential of power play. In some works of spanking fiction of the M/F kind, the spankee is a secretary. In real-life consensual spanking, the players sometimes use the roles of boss and secretary for roleplay -- see boss/employee.

Humor magazines and men's girlie magazines from the 1950s, '60s, and '70s are rife with light-hearted spanking cartoons of bosses punishing their secretaries for making some trivial mistake. Two typical examples can be seen in Comedy Riot from 1956 and another illustration circa the mid-1960s.

There is a 2002 movie of the title Secretary in which the female protagonist works as a secretary for an attorney. They enter a dominant/submissive relationship during which he spanks her in the office (and she loves it). This was spoofed by Adam & Eve Pictures in the pornographic film The Perfect Secretary and inspired the CP video Secretary, Nu-West Version by Nu-West/Leda Productions.
