Spanking Art:MediaWiki
This page is for technical discussions regarding the wiki software (MediaWiki).
Extensions[edit]
Installed extensions[edit]
- The ParserFunctions extension (required for the #if syntax used e.g. in Template:NavigationBox, Template:NavComics)
- The YouTube extension
- The SpamBlacklist extension
- The CharInsert extension (used for easy insertion of special characters)
- The Poem extension (used to format poems)
- The DismissableSiteNotice extension that allows users to close the sitenotice, using cookies
- For a complete list, see Special:Version
Installed extensions that need fixing[edit]
Other things that need fixing[edit]
- The Google Charts feature (for charts and maps), see MediaWiki:Common.js -- this is broken as of 2019
Wanted extensions[edit]
- The DynamicPageList (third-party) extension (used e.g. to display the most recent images and articles on the main page, and the most popular images, articles, and categories) -- this extension is no longer installed.
- A solution to display off-wiki HTML pages like a wiki page (e.g. JavaChat)
Gadgets[edit]
- Gadgets are not yet working. They can be selected in the preferences but don't seem to run, for an unknown reason. (We tried StockPhoto and HotCat.)

Combating spam[edit]
See Combating spam, Anti-spam features and Combating vandalism.
The SpamBlacklist extension allows us to block URLs that match configurable regular expressions via MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist and MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist.
In January 2011 we upgraded from MediaWiki 1.11.1 to MediaWiki 1.16.1 and installed the Extension:Check Spambots extension. However the extension had an issue and was removed again.
In the years that followed we had a steady flow of spambot annoyance, but nothing too bad. In August 2022 this changed when we began to experience massive spambot attacks. Spankart used the extension AbuseFilter to fight it; see Manual:Combating spam/AbuseFilter examples. This helped, but the spam was still an annoyance, e.g. in the Special:RecentChanges, and occasionally our AbuseFilter had false positives, blocked regular users and reverted their edits, which then had to be manually undone. In May 2023, probably by some action by our technical admin Carlb, the spambot attacks stopped completely, and Spankart deactivated the AbuseFilter again.
