A furry is a fictional anthropomorphic animal that is based on a mammal (e.g. cat, dog, mouse, fox, wolf or bear) with a human personality and characteristics. Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, the ability to speak, walk on two legs, and wear clothes. The name "furry" refers to having fur, which is something that all furries, as different as they may be, have in common, and which distinguishes them from humans.

Furry fandom refers to the fandom for such characters. It is the community of artists, writers, role players and general fans of the furry art forms who gather on the Internet and at conventions. Some fans like to dress up in furry costumes known as fursuits.

In Japanese art and subculture, furry characters are known as kemono.
