François Claudius Compte-Calix


François Claudius Compte-Calix (1813-1880) was a French painter and lithographer.

He was born in Lyon on August 27, 1813 and studied art at the Academie des Beaux-Arts de Lyon from 1829 to 1833 as a student of Jean-Claude Bonnefond (1796-1860).

Besides painting, Compte-Calix also became a very successful engraver. He did etchings and lithographs as book illustrations such as romantic books of poetry.

François Claudius Compte-Calix died in Chazay d’Azergues on July 29, 1880.

François Claudius Compte-Calix did one painting showing an outdoor spanking scene (F/m). It is not known if he also did other spanking paintings or illustrations.
