Femdom
Femdom, or female dominance, refers to BDSM activities where the dominant partner is a female. The word Femdom can also stand for female dominant, and a female dominant is sometimes called a domme or domina. A female professional dominant is often referred to as a dominatrix.
The submissive partner can either be male (F/M, femdom/malesub) or female (F/F, femdom/femsub). However some people seem to equate "femdom" with F/M.
This is the opposite of Maledom where the dominant partner is male.
A specific case of femdom is sisdom, where a dominant girl is the sister of her submissive sibling (brother or sister).
Characteristics[edit]
The F/M scenario is often looked upon as a kind of role reversal, as in traditional society men would take the dominant role over women.
Many people, in particular men with masochistic leanings, find sexual pleasure in being dominated by a woman. Since there are comparatively few women who like to play the dominant role in a BDSM partnership, there is a market for professional dominatrices. This fact, plus the common notion that an M/F scenario reminds people of domestic violence, may be the reason why by the mid-20th century femdom had become a common stereotype of the entire BDSM subculture. Especially in mainstream media, the image of a masochistic man whipped by a dominatrix is much more common than that of a masochistic woman enjoying the dominance of her male partner.
Femdom art[edit]
Femdom art (stories, drawings, photos, videos, etc) features bondage as well as spanking and humiliation scenes. Femdom is a typically adult genre, so the spankees are rarely minors. A work of F/f or F/m art is generally not called "femdom". An exception may be considered, for example, in drawings by Jay Em who feature women in dominatrix outfits spanking children.
Fans of femdom art are typically men who find the concept of women dominating, humiliating and punishing men erotic.

Femdom video producers[edit]
Nu-West, one of the oldest and largest producers of corporal punishment videos, was also among the first to recognize the demand for femdom titles. In the early 1990s they added a new division for female dominant titles called Leda. The company then became known as Nu-West/Leda Productions. These male-submissive titles include especially harsh punishments as well as humiliation training that includes enemas and sodomy with strap-on dildos.
Two companies that are evenly divided between femdom and female-submissive productions are Pacific Force and the now-defunct Brooks Applications. Raven Hill Studios recently added a line of femdom titles produced by Bad Lad Entertainment.
