Chastisement

(Redirected from Chastize)

Chastisement is the act of scolding a person and/or inflicing punishment. The verb to chastise (or chastize) comes from old French chastier, from Latin castigo. See also castigation.

Often, the word chastisement is thought to refer specifically to the infliction of corporal punishment, but it actually has a wider definition. Chastisement can also mean a rebuke.

The verb "to lambaste" also can refer to either scolding or thrashing someone.
