Ally McBeal is an American television series which ran on the Fox network from 1997 to 2002. This offbeat comedy-drama was set in a fictional Boston law firm. The series was created by David E. Kelley and stars Calista Flockhart as the titular McBeal. The large supporting cast includes Jane Krakowski, Portia de Rossi, Lucy Liu, et al.
In the 2002 episode "Buried Pleasures", Portia de Rossi's character drops hints that she is interested in experimenting with spanking. John, her clueless boyfriend, resists at first, regarding this as a perversion. But, after doing some online research, he decides to take a crack at it. Later, in their bedroom, he surprises her with four painfully severe hairbrush smacks that she does not appreciate or enjoy. (Filmed from a head-on point of view so that we see only her anquished expression.) That is the end of their experiment.
Several episodes later it is revealed that she has betrayed the law firm where she works and says to John, "I bet you really want to spank me now."
