An adult is a human above a certain age at which they are considered fully mature in a legal sense, the age of majority. The exact age limit varies among countries and states, but is typically 18, 19, 20 or 21. People below the age of adulthood are called minors.
As an adjective, adult often refers to material not considered appropriate for minors, such as erotic or pornographic works.
